Continuing with my reflections on Foster's The Freedom of Simplicity here are a few thoughts.
"Seek the God-possessed soul. He is not in our field of vision ... He is our vision." Richard Foster, The Freedom of Simplicity
What does it look like to live from your divine "center"? With Christ as the center he becomes the strong force (Kenneth Boa refers to this), driving your motives and passions. He possesses your soul. In contrast to living from one's perimeter, the Christ-center pushes out a focus that is wholly in tune with the heart of God. It approaches culture with the divine agenda of grace, service and love.
Culture, then, cannot wield its dominating hand (Rom. 12:1). Rather, it is dissipated by the strong force; the underlying swell of Almighty God.
So first we seek and struggle back to our center. Once there we realize that to be in the divine center means to be God-possessed. Exhaling, we surrender and are possessed. When we return from our inward journey, we are able to see things invisible to us before. Our vision is God's and our actions speak to the world. "I am free from cultural dominance. I can love freely because I am, at my core, God-possessed."
We can only become outward when, first, we begin inward ... from our Divine center.
